Norwegian star Kristiansen enters ERC Junior Championship
Promising Norwegian Petter Kristiansen will contest the inaugural FIA ERC Junior Championship having followed in the footsteps of rally star Andreas Mikkelsen during his early career.
The 24-year-old, a regular in his country’s domestic championship for a number of seasons, will pilot a ŠKODA Fabia R2 in the European Rally Championship’s new young driver class, which begins on Rally Liepāja in Latvia at the end of January.
Ex-karter Kristiansen is a former winner of the Greta Molanders Fond, a prize for up and coming Norwegian rally drivers won in 2009 by Mikkelsen, now a factory driver in the World Rally Championship with Volkswagen.
Kristiansen’s knowledge of driving ŠKODA’s dates back to 2012 when he contested the ŠKODA Fabia Rally Cup within the Czech championship, which was his first experience of asphalt competition. He finished fourth in the final standings and posted a season-best finish of third on Barum Czech Rally Zlín. Kristiansen spent last season competing in Norway and finished third in class in his home series.
“I am very familiar with the ŠKODA Fabia R2,” said Kristiansen, who will also compete in the Norwegian championship in 2014 in a Subaru Impreza STI. “At the moment our goal is for sure to fight for victory in JERC. It will be an exciting year for us where we’ll also get experience in four-wheel drive as learning as part of our plans for 2015. But for sure the JERC will be our main goal.”
